Spend at least one night in the old town oh this 17th-century imperial city. While there, visit the Bab Mansour Gateway, the Museum of Moroccan Arts (in the Bab Djamai) and the Tomb of Moulay Ismail (one of the great tyrants in history, nicknamed « the Bloodthirsty »). Also in town are the old prisons for Christian slaves.
You can take day trips to two nearby towns. Moulay Idriss, founded in the 18th-century, is a holy city for pilgrims. In Volubilis you’ll find the well-preserved ruins of the2,000 year-old Roman city, home of Antony and Cleopatra's daughter, Selene. The mosaic floors here are among the finest in existence.
